Our trip in the north part 2

During our tour in the north, we stayed two times in a locale's house. They prepared food for us in the evening and crêpes for breakfast ! Overall these guesthouses are nicer than the hotel we have in Hanoi, they have more charm and not less comfortable.

One evening we even went to a karaoke with our host, a Thai guy, and our guides. They sang lots of love song in Vietnamese, it was fun! We kept with English ourselves. It's really popular here. For the English song the music video is not always genuine, so it's either Asian people flirting on the beach or a trailer for Hot Shots. So random!

We did a small hike to a hmong village, where they don't have electricity. We drank tea with a guy that lived there, he was so friendly, he then offered us his own rice alcohol. He was really small as well. Vietnamese are not tall.

Yesterday we arrived in Ninh Binh, where the landscape is pretty similar to Guilin and Yangshuo. There are lots of mounts everywhere, and we even did a bicycle tour of the pagodas. I was on my own bicycle and didn't kill myself so I'm pretty proud!

We visited a temple dating from 1000AD, for the Kings of that time.

We went on a 90 minutes boat ride in this landscape, also called the terrestrial ha long. This attraction appears to be really popular with Vietnamese people. We were just me and Céline on a raft, and the other many rafts had 8 people on them. As it was lightly raining I bought a light plastic protection that makes me look like a giant condom. There were lots of Vietnamese tourists because the 30th is a holiday, they celebrated re unification of the country in 1975. Everybody stared at us, probably because they come from all around the area and didn't see many westerners. Or maybe because they find me hot. Seriously every woman we talked to in Vietnam complimented me on my looks, I think I could be a movie star here no problem.

The local speciality here is the duck, I enjoyed it a lot. But as usual in Asia they cut it so you are sure to have boney parts. Luckily I love duck too much to care.

Today we are on our way to Ha Long, to do a two days cruise! Looks fun!

From ninh binh to ha long, we crossed the part of Vietnam where they eat dogs AND cats. I saw so many thit cho and thit meo signs. Hopefully my cats won't hold me grudge.

Yesterday our driver had the air-conditioning so cold in the car. He never stops changing it too, he looks obsessed with it. I think it's usually when we drive uphill he turns it off and put it to cold, they downhill or flat he turns it back on and regular temperature. Well today he and the guide are sick and sneeze all the time, so now it's hot here! At least I'm alright! Céline too :p
